Nuclear power substantial to revert climate change

There is no credible alternative to nuclear power if the world shall prevent a climate disater, four leading climate scientists write in an open letter to world leaders.

The world needs to meet growing global energy demand without "using the atmosphere as a waste dump", the scientists write. While they acknowledge the role that renewable energy will play in the future energy economy, they contend that to stabilise the climate without recourse to nuclear remains a possibility in theory only.

"In the real world, there is no credible path to climate stabilisation that does not include a substantial role for nuclear power," the scientists state.
